When the forests turn colourful and the clear autumn air offers magnificent views, Carinthia is at its most beautiful. Together, we spend varied days at picturesque Lake Wörthersee, discover impressive landscapes and charming towns, and enjoy the warm hospitality of our hotel directly on the lake.
Itinerary
Day 1: Journey to Lake Wörthersee
Early in the morning, we set off towards Lake Constance and continue through the Allgäu region to Munich. In a cosy Bavarian beer garden, we enjoy a traditional lunch and look forward to the days ahead. We then continue past Salzburg and into the beautiful landscapes of Carinthia. In the afternoon, we reach Lake Wörthersee and check into our rooms at Werzer's Hotel Resort in Pörtschach. Over our first dinner together, we bring the day to a relaxing close and look forward to the experiences ahead.
Day 2: Lake Wörthersee Cruise and Velden
After a generous breakfast, we enjoy a leisurely morning in Pörtschach. Those who wish can explore the resort on a walk, relax in the hotel's wellness area or simply enjoy the special atmosphere by the lake.
In the early afternoon, a delightful cruise takes us across Lake Wörthersee to Velden. We stroll along the elegant lakeside promenade and have the opportunity to stop for coffee and cake at the famous Schlosshotel Velden. Later in the afternoon, our coach takes us back to the hotel. In the evening, we enjoy dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Nockalm Road and Lake Millstatt
Today we experience one of Carinthia's most beautiful landscapes. The journey along the famous Nockalm Road offers gently rounded mountain peaks, expansive alpine meadows and impressive panoramic views.
Along the way, we enjoy a traditional Austrian snack and take in the unique mountain scenery. Afterwards, we visit idyllic Lake Millstatt, where the clear water and beautiful surroundings invite us to linger. Time for a walk or a relaxing coffee break rounds off this enjoyable excursion. After returning to the hotel, there is plenty of time to relax by the lake or in the hotel's wellness area.
Day 4: Klagenfurt and Minimundus
After breakfast, we travel to Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia. Our first visit is to Minimundus, the “Little World at Lake Wörthersee”. Here we admire more than 160 detailed models of famous buildings from around the world and enjoy an impressive journey around the globe.
Afterwards, we explore Klagenfurt's old town on foot, including the Alter Platz, the famous Lindwurm and the impressive Renaissance courtyards. For lunch, we stop at a traditional local restaurant before there is some free time for an individual stroll or a coffee. In the early afternoon, we return to Pörtschach and enjoy the rest of the day by the lake before dinner awaits us at the hotel.
Day 5: Return Journey to Switzerland
After eventful days, we say goodbye to Lake Wörthersee and begin our journey home. Our route takes us through the picturesque Drau Valley to Lienz and onwards through the Puster Valley to Bruneck in South Tyrol. Via the historic Brenner Pass, we reach Innsbruck, enjoying impressive views of the mountains along the way.
We stop for lunch at a pleasant location and take time to reflect on the many impressions of the past few days. With wonderful memories of Carinthia and Lake Wörthersee, we return to Switzerland in the evening.
