Glarus Alpine cheese and Schabziger market with Alpine cattle drive
The Alpchäs- und Schabzigermärt in Elm on the first Sunday in October is a must in every diary. The pretty village fills up with market stalls where the Glarus alp families sell their fine Glarus alp cheese from the current summer. The Chäsmärt begins with the Älplerzmorgä, from 09.00 a.m. the market stalls are opened for tasting and selling. The sounds of the alphorn and Schellner will be a must. There is also a children's programme and the yodelling mass begins at 10.00 am. In addition to the festival restaurants, which offer Glarner Alpenraclette, spicy "Zigerhöräli" and Älplermagronen, the Elmer catering establishments also prepare for the festival and offer various specialities. Live music provides the atmosphere and, as a highlight and finale, the cows of Steinibach arrive in the village in the afternoon to present their flower decorations.
