A colorful festival day in Centovalli: In Santa Maria Maggiore, we experience the unique chimney sweep festival with a parade, music, and living history.
Early in the morning, our journey begins in the Olten region with a trip to Ticino. Via Locarno, we take the Centovalli Railway to idyllic Santa Maria Maggiore. There we immerse ourselves in one of the region's most traditional festivals. The highlight is the large, spectacular parade of over 1,000 chimney sweeps with their historical tools, accompanied by traditional costume groups and marching bands. The parade winds its way through the narrow streets and across the atmospheric squares of the village. In Piazza Risorgimento, we watch the presentation of the delegations, followed by a historical reenactment of chimney sweeping, accompanied by Taròm, the jargon of chimney sweeps. Afterwards, there is plenty of time to explore the festival grounds and enjoy refreshments in the park of Villa Antonia. In the late afternoon, we take the Centovalli Railway back to Locarno. We then return by coach to the Olten region.
