Corsica captivates with spectacular coastal landscapes, picturesque harbour towns, rugged mountains and Mediterranean charm. Together, we discover the island's many highlights, experience impressive natural wonders, follow in Napoleon's footsteps and enjoy the unique atmosphere between mountains and sea.
Our holiday begins with the journey to Savona, where the overnight ferry to Corsica awaits us. After settling into our cabins, we enjoy dinner in the table-service restaurant on board.
As the ferry slowly approaches the island the following morning, Corsica appears before us with peaks rising to 2,000 metres – like a “mountain range in the Mediterranean”. Varied days filled with magnificent landscapes, historic towns and Mediterranean flair await us.
After breakfast on board, we arrive in Bastia and welcome our first impressions of Corsica. We travel along the fertile east coast, passing vineyards, orchards and kiwi plantations, all the way to the southern tip of the island.
In Bonifacio, one of Corsica's most spectacular towns awaits us, perched high above the white limestone cliffs. A tourist train takes us up to the medieval old town, where we explore the impressive citadel and narrow winding streets. During a boat trip along the cliffs, we experience Bonifacio from a very special perspective from the sea.
We then travel through the varied landscapes around the Gulf of Valinco towards Ajaccio, where we check into our hotel for the next three nights. We enjoy dinner in a unique setting.
In the morning, we discover Ajaccio, Napoleon's birthplace and the capital of Corsica. Together, we stroll through the lively old town, passing elegant boulevards, charming squares and Mediterranean cafés.
At Maison Bonaparte, we learn more about the life and history of the city's most famous son. A visit to the market hall introduces us to the culinary side of Corsica, with regional specialities and fresh produce on offer.
The afternoon is free for you to explore the old town, go shopping or enjoy some time at the beach in Ajaccio or Porticcio. Dinner is served at the hotel.
Today, one of the scenic highlights of our journey awaits us. The Calanches de Piana fascinate with red granite cliffs rising up to 350 metres above the sea. Extraordinary rock formations, vibrant colours and spectacular views accompany us along the way.
In the harbour town of Porto, we enjoy lunch together surrounded by the impressive scenery of sea, mountains and Mediterranean vegetation. A boat trip along this famous coastline offers unique views of the rugged red cliffs.
In the afternoon, our panoramic drive takes us through the impressive Spelunca Gorge and past the picturesque mountain village of Evisa before returning to Ajaccio. In the evening, we enjoy dinner together at the hotel.
After breakfast, we leave Ajaccio and travel over the forested Col de Vizzavona into the heart of Corsica. Our destination is Corte, the island's historic capital and still an important symbol of Corsican identity.
A tourist train takes us up to the old town. During our walk, we discover this lively university town and learn more about Corsican history and its strong tradition of independence.
We then continue through the wild and romantic Golo Valley to Bastia. This Baroque harbour town captivates with its historic buildings, picturesque streets and charming old fishing port.
In the evening, we say goodbye to Corsica and enjoy dinner on board the overnight ferry to Savona.
While enjoying breakfast on board, we reach the Italian mainland in the morning. After arriving in Savona, we begin our journey home.
Along the way, we reflect on the highlights of the past few days: spectacular coastlines, impressive mountain landscapes, historic towns and Corsica's unmistakable atmosphere. With many wonderful memories, we return home.
During our stay, we are accommodated at Hotel U Paradisu in Porticcio on the Gulf of Ajaccio. This charming 3-star hotel is located directly by the sea in a small, sheltered bay with a fine sandy beach and offers wonderful views across the Gulf of Ajaccio towards the Îles Sanguinaires.
The air-conditioned rooms feature sea views and a loggia. Hotel facilities include a terrace with bar, breakfast room, lift and a private beach area with sun loungers. Its peaceful location and proximity to the centre of Porticcio make the hotel an ideal base for our discoveries in Corsica.
