Enjoy tulip blossom in Holland: colors, culture, and a highlight in the north with a trip across the famous dam.
Holland is a must-see in spring when the tulips are in bloom. Enjoy the sights in an indescribable blaze of color that is sure to put you in a good mood. A special highlight is a trip to the north of Holland with a ride on the Zuiderzee Dam from Zurich to Den Oever.
Our journey begins with an entertaining drive through Germany and on through Holland to Egmond aan Zee. Here we check into the ****Hotel Zuiderduin for 4 nights. Dinner at the hotel.
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we set off for the flower paradise of Keukenhof, where you can marvel at the colorful splendor of the flowers! In the afternoon, discover the port of Rotterdam on a boat tour. It is considered the largest port in the world. Afterwards, we return to the hotel.
In the morning, we set off for Amsterdam – but before we reach the metropolis, a very special stop awaits us: at the cheese dairy and clog factory “De Simonehoeve,” we experience firsthand how the famous Gouda cheese is made and how traditional clogs are crafted.
We will get a taste of Dutch craftsmanship and be enchanted by the stories and aromas. Afterwards, we will continue to idyllic Volendam, a typical fishing village on the IJsselmeer. Here we will spend our lunch break, enjoy the maritime atmosphere, and have time for a stroll along the harbor promenade. In the afternoon, we will reach Amsterdam, where the city's special flair will immediately captivate us. On a city tour, we discover the most beautiful corners and learn exciting facts about the history and life in the Dutch capital. A highlight is the canal cruise, where we experience the city from the water – past historic houses, picturesque bridges, and lively neighborhoods. With many impressions in our luggage, we begin our return journey in the evening – filled with a day full of Dutch highlights.
Today, the north is calling – and we follow it with curiosity and anticipation! Our route takes us through the Northeast Polder, a fascinating landscape that was reclaimed from the sea and now impresses with wide fields and clear lines. We feel the tranquility and openness of this region before continuing on to Friesland, where tradition and nature go hand in hand. A real highlight awaits us on the Abschlussdamm – the 30-kilometer-long dike that separates the IJsselmeer from the Wadden Sea. We drive from Zurich to Den Oever and experience a technical masterpiece and a panorama that is second to none: water on both sides, wind in our hair, and a feeling of freedom. Dinner together at the hotel.
After breakfast, we say goodbye to Egmond aan Zee and the sea and take a varied route back to Switzerland.
