6-day trip to Provence: Arles, Avignon, Pont du Gard, Camargue, Gordes, Roussillon, and Aix-en-Provence. Delicious dinners, colorful landscapes, and Mediterranean flair await us.
Amid ancient buildings, picturesque villages, the fragrant scent of lavender, and culinary delights, we will discover Provence at its most beautiful. We will immerse ourselves in the world of the Romans, experience Mediterranean flair in Avignon and Nîmes, be enchanted by the colors of the ochre cliffs, and enjoy authentic evenings full of Provençal joie de vivre.
Our journey takes us to Arles, where we will stay at the Brit Hôtel Acacias for five nights. On the way, we will stop for lunch and enjoy a delicious meal together in a beautiful location. After arriving in Arles, we will have time to soak up the special atmosphere of the city that once inspired Vincent van Gogh. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner together at the hotel restaurant.
Today it's “Bonjour Avignon”! We will visit the mighty Papal Palace with Histopad and immerse ourselves in the history of the city on the banks of the Rhône. Then we will continue on to the Pont du Gard – the Roman aqueduct is a masterpiece of ancient engineering. In Nîmes, we will stroll through the Jardin de la Fontaine and, if we wish, visit the arena or the Maison Carrée (optional). Back in Arles, we will round off the day with dinner at the hotel.
In the morning, we explore Arles, the city on the border of the Camargue, known for its Roman monuments and as the place where Van Gogh worked. Then we head out into the unique landscape of the Camargue – home to white horses, pink flamingos, and black bulls. In Aigues-Mortes and Ste-Marie-de-la-Mer, we experience Mediterranean flair by the sea. In the evening, we visit the Manade Arnaud bull farm: we enjoy an unforgettable evening with a cart ride to see the bulls and a traditional menu with wine.
Today, the Luberon beckons with its colors and scents. We stroll through Gordes and marvel at the bright ochre cliffs in Roussillon. In the lavender museum in Coustellet, we learn exciting facts about the “fragrant soul” of Provence. Then we head to the Carrières de Lumières near Les Baux-de-Provence, where a fascinating sound and light show awaits us. The day is rounded off with a visit to an olive oil mill, including tasting, and a fine 4-course dinner at the Le Mas Teulière restaurant in Maussane-les-Alpilles.
In Aix-en-Provence, we follow in the footsteps of Cézanne. We stroll along the magnificent Cours Mirabeau, see St. Sauveur Cathedral and the Tour de l'Horloge. The charming old town with its squares invites you to linger. If you like, you can visit the Confiserie du Roy René and try the famous calissons (optional). We enjoy a final dinner together in the hotel restaurant.
After breakfast, we say goodbye to Provence. On the way, we stop for lunch together before setting off on our journey home with many wonderful impressions and Provençal specialties in our luggage.
