Let’s look forward to a variety of experiences amid the majestic peaks of the Dolomites, idyllic wine-growing regions, and historic towns. Together, we’ll explore the elegant spa town of Merano, the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano, and the famous mountain scenery of the Dolomites. We’ll also enjoy delightful moments during a wine tasting, an apple tasting, and typical South Tyrolean delicacies.
Day 1: Arrival and the Spa Town of Merano
In the morning, we’ll begin our journey, traveling via Davos and the Flüela Pass to South Tyrol. Passing through the Vinschgau Valley, we’ll reach the elegant spa town of Merano, which charms visitors with its well-maintained promenades, historic buildings, and southern charm. During a guided walking tour of the town, we’ll discover the most beautiful aspects of this town rich in tradition and learn interesting facts about its history. Afterward, there’s time for a coffee break on your own or a leisurely stroll through the picturesque alleys. We then continue on to Truden and check into our family-run Hotel Ludwigshof. Our hosts will give us a warm welcome over a glass of South Tyrolean wine.
Day 2: Bolzano, Wine Tasting, and Apple Delights
Today we’ll get to know Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, better on an interesting guided city tour. We’ll explore the famous Waltherplatz with its cathedral, as well as the historic arcades that invite you to take a leisurely stroll. Afterward, we’ll drive to Eppan to the Brigl Winery, where a cellar tour with wine tasting and open-faced sandwiches awaits us. Traveling along the picturesque South Tyrolean Wine Route, we’ll reach Lake Kaltern and enjoy some free time to walk around and relax. Back at the hotel, we’ll be treated to oven-fresh apple strudel along with coffee or tea. During an apple tasting, an apple sommelier will share fascinating facts about the diverse South Tyrolean apple varieties, and of course, we’ll get to sample them as well.
Day 3: Grand Dolomites Tour
Today we’ll experience one of the highlights of the trip: the grand panoramic drive through the impressive mountain landscape of the Dolomites. We’ll drive through the Fleimstal and Fassatal valleys, enjoying magnificent views of the striking peaks along the way. Our route continues over the Pordoi Pass toward Cortina d’Ampezzo. (Lunch together en route) The view of the famous Three Peaks, among the Dolomites’ most iconic landmarks, is particularly impressive. We continue our tour through the Gadertal Valley, also known as the Abteital, before returning to the hotel in the evening. For our farewell dinner, we’ll enjoy a South Tyrolean farmhouse-style meal.
Day 4: Return Home
After breakfast, we say goodbye to the southern part of South Tyrol. With many wonderful memories in tow, we begin our journey home. Our route takes us back toward home via the Reschen Pass and the Arlberg Pass.
