In 2026, the Tellspiele Interlaken will once again invite audiences to enjoy open-air theater with a new production of Switzerland's most famous legend: William Tell.
Look forward to “TELL UNSER HELD” (Tell Our Hero), loosely based on Friedrich Schiller, in a text adaptation by Urs Häberli and Annemarie Regez. A special theater experience awaits you at the Tellspiele Interlaken venue. Many participants, including animals, especially the popular cavalry, will bring you closer to the story of William Tell. Is he a hero, or is he merely avenging the tyranny of Gessler, who demanded that Tell shoot an apple from his son's head? Or does the murder of Gessler ultimately trigger the Swiss struggle for freedom? Director Urs Häberli and his team, together with all the actors and actresses, explore this exciting question. The play offers plenty of material and emotions from the characters on stage to ponder. Themes such as ideas of freedom, private relationships, class differences, and many more are central to Friedrich Schiller's work, as they are in “TELL UNSER HELD.” You will experience the play in two languages: the Habsburgs will speak German on stage, while their compatriots will perform their roles in Swiss German. This approach serves to highlight the two different worlds on stage. The director is keen to tell stories in his production and to bring them to the stage in an authentic, moving, and understandable way.
TELL UNSER HELD is set to be a lasting theater experience for you!
